Through summer twilight sweetened with honeysuckle,
I played the games of youth'til night shadows fell across
childish laughter and sent me scampering for safety
... in Daddy's arms.
Leaving adolescence behind ... reaching for grown-up
status ... I felt the first insidious crack begin winding
its way through fragile self-esteem, and I searched for
reassurance
... in Daddy's eyes.
In youthful ignorance I marched toward infinity.
Early landmarks scarcely passed into oblivion before
reality bruised my soul and forced me to my knees.
The strength to rise again was found
... in Daddy's words.
New goals gained substance and filled empty spaces.
Old hopes - some mended beyond recognition - were
carefully folded away, and ragged pieces of broken
dreams were placed where they would be forever safe
... in Daddy's hands.
