Honey Gail - with Mark's strength beside her - went bravely to surgery on March 15th. Karen came over from Nashville to be here in my apartment with me during the slow hours passing between pre-op and recovery room.
Texting went steadily back and forth between Karen and Mark.
Finally ... sweet relief ... it was over. We'd made it through. Now, only the seven weeks of radiation waited up ahead. The worst was behind her.
But, no ...
Not quite ...
March 21st Honey Gail went for her scheduled post-op check up. She thought it would be nothing more than a quick routine appointment. She was more than able to handle it by herself. She insisted Mark go on to his office that day.
For the first and only time since her cancer was diagnosed, ,Honey's faithful husband was not close by when bad news was delivered and she reached for him. She was forced to take a deep breath and finish the doctor-patient meeting on her own. When it finally ended she made it back to her car and dialed Mark's number before allowing herself to break down.
Another surgery has been scheduled for April 5th. Honey Gail tells me this is only an unexpected detour and everything will turn out just fine up ahead.
Please continue praying for Honey and for all of us who love her so dearly. Please pray hard.
