Oriah Mountain Dreamer is a Canadian writer. I read her book, "The Dance," about ten years ago. Very profound. I was grateful for her words back then. I needed them. I still do.
In Oriah's poem, "The Invitation," someone recently discovered a verse that spoke strongly to her:
"It doesn't interest me if the story you are telling me is true ... I want to know if you can disappoint another to be true to yourself."
She shared her discovery on facebook and quickly found a kindred soul who grasped the importance of those words. That verse could mean total validation of a person's beliefs! What great poetry!
That same poetry by Oriah Mountain Dreamer included a verse that spoke strongly to me:
"It doesn't interest me to know where you live or how much money you have. I want to know if you can get up after a night of grief or despair, weary and bruised to the bone and do what needs to be done to feed the children."
When I was a young mother I lived through many long dark nights filled with grief and despair. I was weary and bruised to the bone, but I always got up and did what needed to be done.
My children never went hungry.
I rest my case.
Not only do I rest my case, I refuse to plead it ever again.
Not in any form.
Not one more time.
