I see it all around me now ... my generation ... my friends ... existing in bodies no longer dependable ... feeling with hearts broken too many times ... thinking with minds that refuse to keep up ...
That dreaded stage of helplessness creeps closer toward me with each passing day. In my imagination I have both arms sticking straight out in front of me like a traffic cop ... holding the world at bay ... trying to stop ... something ... I'm not sure what ... time? ... reality? ... I don't know.
What I do know is that I'm not about to go peacefully into those twilight years. When I'm forced to face that particular truth, I'll swear it's a lie. I'll protest. I'll throw myself one magnificently monstrous fit! I'll hurl my Clabber Girl baking powder can against the nearest wall!
(Try not to miss it, Grandchildren. It's gonna be good.)
But that's somewhere up ahead and this is now and I've got a bunch of important stuff to tell you about you ...
You're unique. Do you know that? You are unrepeatable. You have a magic about you that is all your own.
Never judge yourself through someone else's eyes. what others think about you isn't nearly as important as how you feel about yourself.
Follow your intuition through your adult years. Do what makes sense to you. Never compare your journey to someone else's. Choose the path you believe will lead to what you hope to find.
Someday you may look back over a lifetime of searching ... only to discover that the invisible mystical magical thing you've tried so hard to find has always existed ... right inside of you.
Find your passion. (And, no, I'm not talking about sex here, children.) (Grandmas are never talking about sex.) Find your passion, whatever it is. Become it, let it become you, and great things will happen FOR you, TO you and BECAUSE of you. (I'm thinking of your music, Kyle.) Even if things don't work out exactly as planned, you'll still be heading in the right direction , because nothing you have passion for is ever a waste of time ... no matter how it turns out.
Be determined. Nothing is forever in this crazy world. Nothing is permanent ... not even your mistakes, failures or troubles. Keep your eyes open and your feet moving forward. You'll be okay.
Spread kindness.
Hold on tight to your hope. It's that little voice inside your head that keeps whispering "maybe ..." when the whole world is shouting "impossible!"
Keep standing. Hold your ground. Wisdom comes after losses, lessons and triumphs. It creeps in while most of your doubts, second guesses and unknowns are being laid to rest.
Don't let old relationships ruin your future. (I know you already know this, my Meggie) The scars you're carrying today are only to remind you of where you've been ... they have nothing to do with where you're heading.
I love you.
