Something wonderful is happening ...
October 29, 2009
B. J. Sams' collection of high profile interviews, professional and personal correspondence, photographs and awards will soon be put on display at the University of Central Arkansas in Conway.
This collection - representing B.J.'s 56 years in broadcasting - will remain in the archives permanently where it will help preserve the history of Arkansas for future generations.
What a rich and varied life B.J. has lived. He has traveled the world from Israel, Egypt, Jordan, Italy, England and Scotland to Hong Kong, Fiji and Japan. He has met presidents, senators and celebrities. He has eaten Scallopine di Vitello from beautiful porcelain china at Matteo's in Honolulu, and he has eaten cheeseburgers at the local McDonald's. He's comfortable wherever he goes.
Last night I received word that the memorial I wrote for B.J.'s son so many years ago is going to be included in this magnificent collection.
I'm surprised and overwhelmed and very, very grateful.
My work will be one drop of water in a very big ocean. But it will be there forever, and someday Emma Violet's grandchildren will be able to find me there ... one small part of a famous man's history.
