This day belongs to me ...

June 23, 2008

I slept late. It was 9:30 when I opened my eyes ... 9:35 by the time my feet touched the floor and 9:40 before my legs slowly transported me from bedroom to living room area where Phillip was sitting up in his hospital bed watching TV.

"How are you, Phillip?"
"I've got a pulse," he grinned, "How are you?"
"I don't know yet," I told him, "I'm still taking inventory and cataloging my injuries"

We're a pair ... my Phillip and me.

He wished me a Happy Birthday and urged me to turn on the computer. Silly man. He believed every child I owned would have flooded cyberspace with lovely emails to their dear mama. I explained real life the best I could. I spend a great deal of my valuable time explaining real life to this good man.

Tony hasn't the smallest clue that today is special. To anyone. Anywhere.

Patti, sitting at her desk at St. Vincent's, will have written the date on 47 documents before June 23rd rings some faint and far-away bell inside her pretty head. Ohhh ... it's Mama's birthday. I must remember to call her when I get home.

Carmen ... I will send Carmen an email later today to remind her to send me an email later today to wish me Happy Birthday. She and I understand this plan and are quite comfortable with the way it works ...

And Karen ... Karen probably knows it's my birthday, but I may never know for sure that she knows it's my birthday because she seldom allows anybody to know what she knows about anything.

Honey Gail was up with the sun and since the rest of her house was sleeping, she probably sat at the kitchen table leafing through a crowded Daily Planner. Glancing at the calendar while firming up her busy schedule, she suddenly realized ... Oh! It's the 23rd! It's Mama's birthday! She promptly turned on her computer, typed "Happy Birthday, Mama. I love you!" and clicked the send button.

I'm very happy today.

It "tickles me pink" to hear (read) these stories and always has, which is why I find it oh-so-appropriate that you selected a pink template.

Love.

Oh, and Grandma? Happy HAPPY Birthday. I forgot we were both of the same astrological sign.

I remembered to send the e-mail without Mom sending one first . . . well, that's if you don't count the one she sent yesterday.

Love you, Mom.
